Abstract
Risk group (RG) classification data from Germany, Swiss, Belgium, Canada, Singapore, UK, EU, Australia/New Zealand, NIH of USA, Korea and BMBL were compiled and compared the differences in the classifications of biological agents by different countries. Out of 1660 bacterial species complied, 214 species showed differences in RGs. These can be explained by the situations of each countries including the time of classifications of RG made for different countries. Different RG assigned to bacteria means different Biosafety Level (BSL) facility and higher levels of facility such as BSL 3 and BSL 4 require much more resources and affects the handling practices of that microbes. Proper RG assignments are needed for biosafety and efficiency of the laboratory.
